My sister-in-law was kind enough to cut my hair even though she was on vacation!


Besides all the relaxing and playing in the sun, my brother-in-law, mom, and I planned and hosted a surprise birthday party for my sister who turned 40 years old last week. We had a lot of people show up and my sister really was surprised. It was great to see all the family and friends that came out to celebrate!

Jesse's dad came for a short visit this weekend. I enjoyed spending time with him and getting to know him a little better. We got to go to a Tigers game on Friday night but I suck and forgot to take my camera! My friend, Lisa, joined us at the game too. We talked through pretty much the entire game!! She is such an amazing person and I didn't even notice that I missed a lot of the game.

Now I'm trying to get ready for our next trip. Jesse and I leave on Thursday for Washington, D.C. Laundry, pack, clean, burn photo cds for the family....anything else? I'm not too stressed because I unexpectedly have some time off of work. No, I didn't get fired. The building I work in was struck by lightning on Friday and some big ol' transformers in the building burned up. As of today, the building won't be open for business until July 7, the day we return from D.C.! Yay!!

a little vacation.

For the last bzillion years my family has rented a cottage on a lake in West Michigan for one week in the summer. Jesse and I are heading out today to spend a couple days with the fam and to have fun. Stuff like this has been known to happen at the lake:





It might look a little strange to you. But I have been looking forward to this since last year.

I get to stay until Tuesday!! And then I have to come home and get back to work.

And then Jesse's dad is coming for a visit! We are really excited because this will be the first time he will see our home. Jesse will get to spend a few days catching up with his dad and I am excited about getting to know my father-in-law a little better.

valet.

Yesterday morning I had to attend an event for work. As I pulled up to the address for the event, I saw a bunch of fancy cars lined up for complimentary valet parking. Mercedes. BMW. Lexus. Audi. All shiny and new! At first I wasn't sure it wasn't the event I was looking for but it was. So I pulled up in my 10-year old piece of crap Mazda and took advantage of the valet service. I'm sure the valet dude loved it. The event was super fancy even though it was in a tent on an empty parking lot at 9 a.m. Who knew? As soon as the presentation was over, I high-tailed it out of there. Mingling with suits is not my thing. I think I need to get over that. Anyway, as I was waiting for the valet dude to get my car, I watched several people ahead of me get into their fancy cars. The guy standing next to me, also waiting for his car, said he was picking out which car he wanted because they were so nice. I laughed and said I was pretty sure he wouldn't want my car and then prayed that he would leave before me so he wouldn't see my 10-year old piece of crap Mazda with two missing hubcaps. I also wondered if he was hoping I wouldn't see his car. And then a big ass brand new shiny Cadillac pulled up and the guy said, "Have a nice day!" and went to his car. At least I think it was his car. Maybe he had found the one he wanted. He pulled away and my car showed up. I ran and jumped in and took off, hoping nobody noticed.

It reminded me of when I was in college and my friend and I would go to the Collection and have her car valet parked. We called her car the "Gutless Cutlass" and it usually took 10 minutes to explain to the valet dude everything that needed to take place in order to get in the car, turn the car on, put the car in drive, put the car in park, open the door, and close the door. Lots of jiggle this, jiggle that, lift the handle to the right (or left) and push, and don't mind the sound it makes because that's normal. We thought it was hysterical and well worth the $5 to have them move the car 10 feet to a parking spot when there were free parking spots 20 feet away.
